South Pacific Petroleum Corporation Donates $7,600 to Manelu to Support Youth and Family Empowerment Programs

Tamuning, Guam – April 17, 2025 — South Pacific Petroleum Corporation (SPPC), the local distributor of 76 and Circle K, has reaffirmed its commitment to community development and social responsibility by donating $7,600 to Manelu, a nonprofit organization that serves at-risk youth, underserved families, and members of the COFA (Compact of Free Association) community throughout Guam.

This financial contribution will directly support several of Manelu’s core programs that aim to improve the quality of life for vulnerable populations on the island. Manelu operates multiple community outreach and support services designed to empower individuals through education, advocacy, and culturally appropriate resources.

One of Manelu’s flagship initiatives, the Micronesian Resource Center One-Stop Shop (MRCOSS), is focused on helping COFA migrants successfully integrate into Guam’s society. Through partnerships with government agencies such as the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS), the Guam Department of Labor (GDOL), and Child Protective Services (CPS), MRCOSS provides access to vital documentation including birth certificates, social security cards, Guam IDs, and other legal documents. The program also includes Håfa Adai Orientations to educate new residents on Guam’s laws and services, and a Youth Empowerment section that facilitates weekly outreach events for children at GHURA housing locations.

Another key initiative, the Fanhale Program, is based on the nationally recognized Positive Action curriculum and targets at-risk youth across Guam’s public school system. This program addresses issues such as substance abuse, school bullying, cyberbullying, truancy, violence, and prescription drug misuse.

In addition to offering mentorship and educational support, it focuses on leadership development to encourage positive life choices and community engagement.

The Employment Empowerment Initiative aims to prepare individuals for the workforce by teaching critical job readiness skills, including resume writing, interview preparation, and financial literacy. The program also provides assistance with job applications and searches, supporting participants on their path to stable employment. This initiative is carried out in partnership with GHURA (HUD).

The Opportunity Initiative serves children and youth from underserved communities by providing mentoring, academic tutoring, and resources that support success in school and life. The program is implemented at GHURA sites in Toto Gardens, Pagachao, Yona, and Mongmong in collaboration with the Department of Youth Affairs, Department of Corrections, and other local agencies.

Additionally, Manelu runs the Akudi Program, which focuses on homelessness prevention. Akudi helps individuals and families move from temporary shelters into more stable housing, ultimately progressing toward long-term rental arrangements. The program includes monthly outreach events, such as food distributions and community meals at the Hågatña food kitchen. Akudi is designed to strengthen family units and support long-term wellness and housing stability.

SPPC’s contribution will enhance the reach and impact of these programs, allowing Manelu to continue providing essential services that uplift and empower Guam’s most vulnerable populations. This partnership between SPPC and Manelu underscores the importance of corporate and nonprofit collaboration in building a stronger, more resilient island community.
