Clean Your Closet

76/Circle K and the KUAM Care Force announced the start of their 4th annual community-wide program to help children in need in the Philippines.

There are countless children living in unimaginable poverty in the Philippines. In the poorest sections of the Manila, thousands of children hunger for both food and a basic education. To some, a pencil the size of their small fingers, a single sheet of paper to write on or a children’s book, much less a toy for the holidays, would mean so much but are simply out of reach.

For the next month, join 76/Circle K, KUAM Careforce, the Filipino Community of Guam and numerous other Island schools and businesses in supporting Ateneo de Manila University’s Ateneo Center for Education Development (ACED) with its mission to improve circumstances in these children’s lives.

Beginning September 26 to October 29, 2011, you can donate children’s books, school supplies and toys that you no longer use or need and that are in good condition. There are numerous drop off points around the island so its easy to help – including all 76/Circle stores, KUAM studios, most Island Catholic schools, National Office Supply, Catholic Social Services and many others.

KUAM CAREFORCE’s, Marie Calvo-Monge stated, KUAM CAREFORCE and its community partners will just not look the other way. We are so connected to the Philippines and like so many others we feel an urgent need to help and to help now.

Mrs. Calvo-Monge stated that she is grateful to the island’s Catholic high schools and grade schools and to our community for their important role in carrying off this drive. We urge everyone to clean your closets.

Mark J. Sablan, SPPC’s Vice-President of Business Development said this drive is now in its third year and we have helped so many. This program also compliments our Holiday Helping Hands Program which is in its 15th year and allows us to reach out to those in need in our region.

Drop off points: All 76/Circle K locations, Father Duenas Memorial School, St. Anthony School, the Academy of Our lady of Guam High School, the office of the Dededo Mayor, National Office Supply and Catholic Social Services. (Label ACED on your donations to Catholic Social Services). Other drop off points can be found at www.cleanyourcloset.org.
